Hill Country Birth was created to serve the Hill Country community and encompasses a life-long passion for community service and a dedication to continued learning. Offering childbirth education and doula services to pregnant women and their families, Hill Country Birth strives to connect people from all walks of life. We also offer private and group yoga classes to people of all ages and abilities, including Integral® Hatha and Prenatal yoga, and Yoga for Chronic Pain & Arthritis. Based out of Wimberley, TX, we proudly serve all areas of the Hill Country, including Austin, San Antonio, New Braunfels, Blanco, San Marcos, Dripping Springs, Fisher, and Wimberley.
We approach wellness in a Mind|Body|Soul style, with a balanced focus on physical, emotional and spiritual aspects. This is a holistic approach to wellness that combines well with other modalities of health, including Western medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Aryuveda, and other alternative methods of wellness.
Doula Services and Childbirth Education
Be prepared for labor (whether at a hospital, birthing center or at home), learn all you can about the birthing process and the fourth trimester and consider having a doula during the birth for added physical and emotional support. Oona works with local midwives and OBs and is happy to offer doula support wherever you choose to give birth — hospital, birth center or home birth.
HCB strives to be inclusive. We welcome LGBTQIA people and all pregnant people with open arms. Birth is sacred, no matter what form it takes, and no matter who the parent is.
Prenatal and Postpartum Yoga, Yoga for Chronic Pain, Hatha Yoga for the Whole Family
Integral® Yoga is a type of traditional hatha yoga that uses breath and asana (postures) to tone the body, mind and soul. These practices are beneficial for anyone, no matter what physical limitations one may have. Oona specializes in prenatal yoga, yoga for arthritis and chronic pain and all levels of Integral hatha yoga. There is no judgement and no competition at HCB. All levels of students are welcome. Beginners, or people who have never tried yoga before are especially welcome!
Hatha yoga classes are suitable for people of all ages, shapes and sizes. Chronic Pain classes are especially helpful for people who are going to physical therapy, as the movements we do in class work in conjunction with work done with a PT.
Hill Country Birth owner Oona Mekas is doula and childbirth educator, and student midwife. She is also an internationally recognized (certified E-RYT and RPYT) Integral Yoga® teacher. She has been practicing yoga for over 20 years and has been a certified teacher since 2006, over the years serving students on both coasts and everywhere in between. Oona has been working with pregnant women as a prenatal yoga teacher, doula and birth educator since 2010. She is currently working towards becoming a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) and Licensed Texas Midwife.
Oona has a daughter of her own, from whom which she draws daily guidance and inspiration, and loves being a teacher and birth partner for pregnant women who are growing their own families. She is proud to be a volunteer doula for GALS (Giving Austin Labor Support), a non-profit organization that offers labor support to mothers in need in the Austin area.
